Chenevert Architects was selected by the Recovery School District, New Orleans, to design the new Lawrence D. Crocker School to replace the school damaged in Hurricane Katrina. The project scope involved demolition of the existing facility and design of a new 96,477 square foot school. The site design includes nineteen on-site, covered parking spaces and a large play area located in a central courtyard. The new school includes Classrooms, Science Labs and Computer Labs for grade levels Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade, a 450-seat Gymnasium, Media Center/Library, Administration, Music and Art classrooms and Cafetorium. The buildings' exterior materials and massing are designed to be congruent with the surrounding residential structures while still establishing its own identity. Interior spaces are designed to state-of-the-art RSD standards which will meet the flexible teaching needs of the school. This project obtained LEED Silver certification.
